stuck screws in synth?

stuck screws in synth?

2008-03-31 by chthonic

here's a more general techie question...i have an old synth with some voice cards and one
may be shorted out. problem is, i can't get the damn screws off of the cards to take them
out and see which of them (if any) work or don't work.

is there any good trick to loosen the screws without potentially damaging the voice cards?

There are some liquids that might help, but if it is really stuck;
drill a *very* tiny hole in the middle of the screw.

If there's any glue around the head of the screw, slice around the head with a razor knife.

Another idea is a fairly large wattage soldering iron and heat the screw head with it for 30-60 secs then twist the head with a short cw/ccw motion and try and back the screw out.
