Can anyone recommend a compound that offers adhesion and thermal conductivity between an IC and a thermal resistor? The old compound I'm replacing was gray and retained some elasticity (Roland JP-8). Another I've seen was white and had hardened completely (Octave Cat). Silicon grease has been suggested but doesn't seem to really cure into a semisolid bond. Thanks.

Greetings: 3M May make a product -- 3m.com -- Although I don't recall seeing any that really have a setting characteristic to them, but I am sure they exist. They are usually a grease like coumpound and you use a clamp or bracket to hold the parts togather. An option is JB Weld, available at most automotive stores, Fleet Farm, etc. It is a metal filled epoxy polymere that is good to about 600 degrees. I have used it to mount a steel plate on an aluminum oil pan for a magnetic heater. Works very well. I am not sure if it is electrically conductive -- I haven't tested it. Also it is pretty permanent, but could be removed I suspect if you didn't use too much to make the bond joint. Regards; Peter

I've done some research and found a few products that meet my requirements: Loctite 384 (use with 7387 activator) -- acrylic, thermally conductive, fast-curing, non-permanent adhesive CHO-THERM 1641 (1 part)/1642 (2 part) -- silicone thermally conductive adhesive, average cure time, non permanent 3M TC-2707/TC-2810 -- 2 part epoxy thermally conductive adhesive I'd like to try the CHO-THERM, but I can't seem to find a source yet. I'll probably first try the Loctite since it seems to be more readily available. I hope this saves someone a couple of hours on Google.
