Moog Opus 3 strings/chorus

I've read a lot about the String section of the Opus 3 being notorious for dying. Can anyone pinpoint the typical cause of this problem? Looking at the schematic it seems that the Strings run through the 3080A (RCA 1089 on my board) chorus VCA only. I get no sound from the Chorus mixer section, but I get organ sounds from the other two mixer sections. Is this OTA the culprit for most? If so, is there a suitable replacement? The 8 pin DIP (and the 1089 in my unit) are hard to locate. Thanks!
