Anyone know what 1.44Mb floppy drives are compatible with these samplers? I need to replace the drive in my FZ-20M. It is still working (for the moment) but the mountings are mangled and the drive is making excess noise. Larry T.

Hi again Larry, This is the Holy Grail when it comes to the FZ (this, and backing up the OS- but it looks like that might soon be answered ;) ). Anyhow, the floppy that Casio used is a JU-255-p. It's a Matsushita built drive- but by the model number it's probably Panasonic. Impossible too find. Period. Casio long ago stopped supply this part. Buchty (hum,.. I'm starting to see a pattern here,..) has done some work the the drive, and has posted some info on how to modify a drive to work on a FZ. The URL is: http://www.buchty.net/casio/fz1-diskdrive.html I've tried doing the mod to a Teac FD-235 series drive, but mine did not have the same hardware under the hood as the one he modified so I was unable to get the drive speed down, and the FZ never worked with the disk I tried. I'm going to be trying some other floppies and hopefully I can get one of the working <fingers crossed> Also in my reading, I've come to believe that the floppy that Casio used is a XT based drive. Look up Amega, and there is a fair amount of work about how to get them to work a modern 3.5" PC drive. I'm not sure, but based on the same sorts of behavor that the Amega and the Casio do with modern floppy drives, I think they were designed for the same drive type (I'm guessing). If I learn anything, or can get one of the floppies I have working on my FZ10m I will let you know. Will you please keep me posted on anything that you learn. Thanks Larry. Off to copy OS disks,...
