Fwd: [vintagesynthrepair] K2000 outputs blown

Hi all,

well, I have narrowed down my search and identified and ordered the offending
parts. It is a set of Junction FETS transistors fitted to each output (6 in
total). I have ordered a set of 10 from Farnell in the uk.
I was planning to fit these myself but since there rather small parts that need
to be soldered and apart from replacing the backlight i've never done that sort
of job, I was wondering if there was somenone technical enough in the uk that
could help me? I live in west London but could travel a bit.
If not, then any advice on how to replace these transistors would be welcome.

Thanks

Laurent

Hello all,

I just joined this board.
I recently bought a Kurzweil K2000 and am experiencing strange problems.
This Mix outputs are very low and the Headphone outs are very high, cliping at
medium volume.
A quick search on google revealed the following:
"This was a common problem on early K2000's. Later units had a
protection board installed (also available as a low cost upgrade for
older systems). Problem, as I recall, was that static electricity or
floating ground problems could blow the output transistors when
pluggin/unplugging cables to the unit.
There is a transistor on every output that mutes the output when you first
turn on the keyboard. Static electricity can fry these. If you plug in an
audio cable to the K2000, THEN plug that cable into an amp, chances are you
will short the tip of the plug to the chassis of the amp. This will destroy
the transistor.
The remedy is to replace the transistor."

I was wondering if there was any K2K owners on this list who would be familiar
with this issue and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance

Laurent

Hi Brian,

yes that'd be really cool, thanks.
It's actually not to bad to get to, I guess 45-60 minutes from where I live
(Uxrbdige)
I've ordered the parts yesterday but I think they come from the states so it
might be 1 to 2 weeks before I get them.

Hi Brian
Cool. I met him the last time he was Vegas for the MITA convention. Say
hello to him for me. How's business over there. It's slow here in upstate
New York, at least for me. But I do a lot of teaching as well, so it
balances out. Good luck with the Kurzweil.

Hello all,

I just joined this board.
I recently bought a Kurzweil K2000 and am experiencing strange problems.
This Mix outputs are very low and the Headphone outs are very high, cliping
at
medium volume.

I was wondering if there was any K2K owners on this list who would be
familiar
with this issue and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance

Laurent

RE: [vintagesynthrepair] K2000 outputs blown

2004-11-24 by Brian Davies

Hi Keith

I certainly will.

Business is slow over here too, but I have other strings to my bow so no
problems.

I have been in the repair business since the early 50s so am supposedly
retired, but seem to do more now than ever!

Hi Brian
Cool. I met him the last time he was Vegas for the MITA convention. Say
hello to him for me. How's business over there. It's slow here in upstate
New York, at least for me. But I do a lot of teaching as well, so it
balances out. Good luck with the Kurzweil.

Hi Laurent

I spend much of my life repairing amps and keyboards for a shop local to
me - if you have no other offers I would willingly fit your devices for you.
I live near Lingfield in Surrey.

Hi all,

well, I have narrowed down my search and identified and ordered the
offending
parts. It is a set of Junction FETS transistors fitted to each output (6 in
total). I have ordered a set of 10 from Farnell in the uk.
I was planning to fit these myself but since there rather small parts that
need
to be soldered and apart from replacing the backlight i've never done that
sort
of job, I was wondering if there was somenone technical enough in the uk
that
could help me? I live in west London but could travel a bit.
If not, then any advice on how to replace these transistors would be
welcome.

Thanks

Laurent

Hello all,

I just joined this board.
I recently bought a Kurzweil K2000 and am experiencing strange problems.
This Mix outputs are very low and the Headphone outs are very high, cliping
at
medium volume.

I was wondering if there was any K2K owners on this list who would be
familiar
with this issue and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance

Laurent

Need a G key for a Mini Korg

2004-12-01 by Tim Glasgow

Hi folks,

i've been lurking here for a while and digging
it, but now i have my own query. Does anybody out
there have an extra G key for a Mini Korg? i
think the 770 and perhaps the MS series used the
same keys.

i actually had a whole extra keyboard for a
Mini Korg, but i gave it away to a technician
friend a few years ago. Silly me.

Hey Tim, I may be able to assist on this one. I have been repairing synths
for near 25 years. If one needs to be junked, I never throw away the
keybeds.Problem is keys are like snowflakes. So the deal is I need to
know the key's footprint. If you can get me a picture or an accurate
drawing, then I'll proceed to search in my museum. Regards, Russ

number on k2000 electronic diagram ??

Please help me I miss my K2000

This is all from memory, so here goes the transistors are actually
FET's. They are phsically very close to
the various output jacks. Again from memory they are J112 or J113.
According to Kurzweil techs are not to be
substituted with anything else other than the original part nos. Are
easily available and can be removed entirely
from the circuit if you dont mind loud pop/clicks in your amp when
you power up and down the K2000.

Hi Russell

You\u2019re great !!! very extraordinary great !!!!!!

It was that, my k2000 without these two transistors is working good and the pop at the power Up or Down can be easily avoid.

I don\u2019t want to replace the two transistors because I am sure that the problem comes back in six month

Again a great thanks to you.

Very very best regards

David
