wurlitzer 200a sound problem
2003-08-29 by alex
i recently picked up a beautiful wurly 200a for free (the owners were moving, just wanted to get rid of it, lucky me!). other than the legs, it's in awesome shape, and sounded wonderful. however, last night, i took it to band practice to show off. had it plugged in, a couple people fiddled around with it a bit. was working fine. then i tried to hook it into our board, to hear it through the mains, but that didn't work. i wasn't getting any signal from the aux output (tried adjusting the knob on the bottom). the headphone output worked, but it doesn't give much signal, and the sound isn't too good through that. the worst part, though, is that while i was trying to do that, the internal wurly speakers started playing at a really low volume, with a distorted sound. a good bit what it sounds like using the headphone jack into an amp. even with the volume knob all the way up, just the acoustic sound made by the reeds drowns out the speaker, unless you stick your ear right to the grill. upon checking it out today, the aux output is working fine, drives my amp. it's just the speakers that are not working. i was connecting it to our board with a standard 1/4" cable into a line input, though at first i had it in an 'insert' jack, as it was dark in the practice room. the board is not providing phantom power. anybody got any advice on what to check? thanks for any help provided. alex traverse city, mi
