There have been various so called standards ie additions to the basic spec, such as GM but unfortunately this wasn't enough for many hence roland GS and yamaha XG. 2)Do you mean modular synths with voltage control such as the moog, there must be obscure mid sixties recordings but walter carlos "switched on bach" was a famous early use, did'nt George Harrison have one on Abbey Road.
