Speaking of the Omni - I still have to get mine up and running (I'll still
be running down the whole situation soon once there are more subscribers on
board - the short of it is that I can't get either the synth or string sound
generators to make pretty noises but the filters are obviously working 'cos
I can get a cool syndrum kind of sound banging the keys with a slow LOF) but
I've already run across a cool mod for the Omni that you may not know
about... Mark Vail's Vintage Synthesizers describes a very simple
modification you can make to the filter so you can boost its frequency range
from 13kHz to 22+kHz, giving it a much crisper, sizzling high end. The mod
also works on 2600's, Odyssey II's, Axxe II's, Quadras and Avatars 'cos they
all use the same filter circuit. I can post the full directions if you'd
like but the gist of it on an Omni is that you remove 3 4.7K-ohm resistors
and replace them with 2.2K-ohm resistors. Yeah, that's supposedly it!!!
Guess I'll have to wait until my Omni makes sounds before I can hear the
difference...
