Siel PX Piano

2001-03-09 by Jason Zastrow

Hello,
I recently purchased a Siel PX piano from someone on E-Bay. As with every other keyboard I've purchased on E-bay, it arrived in a state of incomplete working order. I've never played one of these before, and I'm not sure exactly how it works, and what is making it not work.
The chorus button seems to give little, if any effect on the sounds. Sometimes when it is depressed, six or seven of the preset LEDs will light dimly, along with the preset that I have chosen. I was wondering if it could be a problem with the power supply.
Another problem with the unit is that with most of the presets except for about two or three, the keyboard seems to be one third a "rhodes" type sound, the middle being a raspy "loose tine" rhodes and the last third is the same sound as the first third. I notice that there are three boards on the inside of the piano, one labeled low, middle and high. Each of these boards has two Texas Instrument chips labeled "TMS3617NS", except for one board which looks like one has been replaced with a "TMX3617ANS", I'm assuming that both are probably simlar. These chips are in sockets, this could mean that they have a chance of failing. I'm not sure what these do, though.
Looking inside of this thing is a far cry from the insides of my Crumar Performer and Elka Rhapsody. I'm somewhat confused, and I'd like to get this thing running.
Any help and suggestions would be most appreciated.
Sincerely,
Jason Zastrow
