There's a constant current source in series with the keyboard resistor chain .. if that circuit has failed that would do the trick. Actually, so would a broken wire near the connector between the keyswitch matrix and the keyboard circuit. There's a separate contact under each key that generates the trigger; at least you know that the connector is plugged in, or you wouldn't see a trigger.
