Vintage Synth Repair

Does anybody have suggestions for fixing a busted membrane ribbon cablefor a
Sequential Circuits Prophet 600? I don't think that mine ever worked right. When I got it from the
previous owner, I restored it from the dead and the ribbon cable was all chewed
up.

I cut off the tip of it to get fresh carbon contacts going into the socket but
that still didn't restore all functionality. Furthermore, when I cut off the
tip of it, I accidentally tore one of the carbon contacts while removing the
plastic sheath covering the thing.

Has anybody tried mounting the ribbon with a different socket? I was thinking
of creating some sort of elaborate connection with conductive pens/paste and
some epoxy.

Suggestions?
