hello everyone

hello everyone

Hello,
I found your group by accident and joined up. It looks like a great resource. I am from Ireland and build a few tube guitar amps and have built a few effects pedals from time to time. I am an electrician and an instrumentation technician.

The reason I stumbled upon this group is that I was searching for tube it synth effects. I had an idea to try make some kind of tube synth to play a guitar through into a guitar tube amp. Does anyone have any ideas or plans for anything like that?

Thanks,
Cian

Hey there, and welcome aboard.

I've a big, modular tube synthesizer/processor project on the bench. Most of the ideas come from Eric Barbour, whose designs can be seen in part on Ken Stone's site: http://www.cgs.synth.net/tube.html

And if that's not enough, you can extrapolate from Barbour's Metasonix product manuals (just peruse Metasonix.com).

Fair warning, this group's pretty quiet most of the time, though maybe some new blood will stir things up a bit.

_Kyle

Hi,

I also recommend the circuits on the CGS website. I've only built the noise source, but I own several Metasonix products and I love them. The BN6 soft-clippers are great for guitar signals, though you should probably start the chain with a preamp. Once the signal is clipped, it will drive the monostable multivibrator in the Hellfire Modulator. The Pentode Filterbank would be a great final stage. However, you should probably begin with the smaller projects. If you don't want to start by building your own power supply, there are some available for purchase, including this one from Lorin Parker;

In fact, when he begins taking orders again, his Phantastron kit would be a good place to start.
