Tube synth diy

i usually start my searching for tube info here -

doesn't have everything but 9 times out of 10 it turns up something.

re pinched tubes (from wiki) - "Miniature tubes (e.g., the 12AX7) were
introduced around World War II. Wires protruding through the bottom of
the glass envelope plugged directly into the socket -- there was no
separate base. The pinched-off air evacuation nub was at the top of
the tube, giving it its distinctive appearance"

sounds like you have a good junk shop near you, i'd love to spend an
hour or two in there.
