CEM3379 vs CEM3387

Hi all, Im new to this group. I wonder what filter you like best; the
CEM3379 in the P2000 or the CEM3387 in the P3000?

3379 is most common i guess ? ESQ-1, Matrix-6 ?? i heard those synths and like the filters alot, never heard of any synths or samplers using 3387 though! anyone who might know what equipment stuffed with 3387 filters ? apart from SCi P3000

Yes, Emulator III, Waldorf Wave and Microwave have as well.

the Matrix is powered by CEM3396...

Waldorf Wave & Microwave has it..

here're some charts about CEM & SSM equipment:

Personally, I couldn't tell about what filter I "like best" - they're
all pretty decent integrated circuits but don't beat a Moog cascade ;)

Emulator III ,Waldorf Wave (year the big one), my selfmade synth! Have
a CEM 3387
and i can tell you its sounds super! I also have a ESQ and a Prophet
2000 sound is more dirty
and a bit more "cheap" ...not so creamy fat like the EMU III for
example...but the 3379 is
good too! Espacialy in the Prophet 2000! the ESQ sounds not so good to
me...

Those filters are a VCF-VCA type but do they require separate VCA:s in
additions tho them, or just one final VCA, or none? I checked the
schemos but could hardly read them.

the ones in the p2000/2002 are combined VCF & VCA but need external
envelope generators. I am toying with the idea of rescuing the CEMs
from my 2000 (which has a dead kybd controller IC but otherwise
perfect...) & using them in another project.

Yes I know there´s separate EG:s. But I think I red somewhere that synths/samplers with those filters have one additional VCA for master control, but I´m not shure.

>>synths/samplers with those filters have one additional VCA for

you're right, & it may well have been another curtis chip in some
designs, where cost wasn't too much of an issue... other designs used
a cheaper vca for a programmable master volume, or scaled the vca
envelope volts going to the voice chips, or else didn't bother & just
had a hardware volume control.
I think there are some synths that did all three aswell... :-)
