I replaced the battery and presto!

Hi all!

I decided to try the battery change first to see if it would help to
put right at least some of the various errors I described in my first
mail ("hello from finland").

I couldn´t get the "cradle" for the new lithium battery locally. As
I´m in a bit of hurry to get my Poly6 going again, I consulted a
local technician and he advised me to replace simply the original
battery with a new, equivalent rechargeable battery from Varta
catalogue. So I decided to try it and ordered a 3,2 V with the
correct charging values from Varta. I got in a few days and it didn´t
cost me more than a few Euros.

It is quite a bit smaller than the original blue "barrel", but its
three pins are long enough to allow identical location on the board.
(+ and - were the other way round with the new one, nevertheless :-)

I removed CAREFULLY the circuit board according to Old Crow´s
excellent tips and soldered the old battery away and soldered the new
one in its place. Now it should do the job of the old battery 1:1 for
some time to come.

All the nasty symptoms dissappeared and Poly6 plays and saves like it
used to do...Will the new battery provide a long-term solution for
me? It remains to be seen... but so far so good...

I will let you know how it goes...

But all in all, it was rather easy operation as long as one´s careful
with those old circuit boards and soldering iron (get a proper
one...mine could have been better!!! :-).

cheers,
Ami
