What's better Polysix or mono/poly?

What's better Polysix or mono/poly?

2003-12-24 by the_lonesomes

Hi!
I played once with a mono/poly and loved it. So far I only own
monophonic synths.
I found someone who sells it quite high (i'm in israel I can't buy it
through ebay because of the high taxes).
Then I found someone who sells a polysix for a very reasonable price.
How different are the two? What are the differences? How do you
program the different oscillators on the polysix with so little
knobs? (I know that on the monopoly there are seperate knobs for each
osc).
Please help me! (before someone else buys them)
Thanks
Adi

Hi!
I owned a Mono/poly and i changed it for a Poly6.
The M/P played better, fatter and was more flexible (talking about
sound) but I play live so i needed to store and recall on the fly my
patches; 6 voices (instead of 4) are much better if you put both your
hands on the keyboard, and 5 octaves are better than 4!!!!
I mean: if you work in studio mono/poly is better; if you work on stage
you'll find Polysix more useful.
That's my opinion!!! ;-)

*******Merry Christmas!!!!! *******

Ps. Maybe i'll buy a Elka Synthex; any feedback??

I'm only going to use it in the studio, and I'm especially looking to
create weird sounds (but not just sound effects).
From what I read these are the main differences I see:
Poly six has seperate ADSR envelopes for each oscilator, while the
monopoly has ADSR controlling all the oscilators at once.
On the other hand, the mono/poly has seperate ADSR for VCF and VCA.
Is this correct?
What other differences are there?
Thanks
Adi

Oh! I get it.
The polysix only has one VCO for all the six sounds. That's not a lot
if you want strange sounds.
The mono/poly has 4 VCOs each with it's own wave shape, volume etc.
(Correct me if I'm wrong)

Polysix has one vco for each voice. Up so six voices can be played at
a time. Each voice will have the same tibre as they are using the same
envelope, vco settings, etc.
The monopoly can do something similar but all four vco's share a
single filter. So its not " true " polyphony from the traditional sense.
Both can do unison, unison is the monopoly's strength as you have
control over each vco in the unison mix. You can use 2, 3 or 4 , use a
different waveform for each oen or the same for all of them. You can
detune them by hand or tune them the same and use the detune knob.
Also, the mono can be actuated by a external cv/midi controller making
it easier to intergrate into your studio. The mono has sync, which the
poly doesnt have and cross modulation. Its a very gritty synth, if you
like the poly you would love the mono.

What's better Polysix or mono/poly? BOTH are good

The mono poly is too difficult for me to perform with though I really want
to, I use the polysix live. I have some sound templates I've made up of
sounds I like quite a bit (for the mono/poly), if anyone is interested I can
maybe scan them in and share. . . might take me some time. It's interesting
to note, I tried switching from one sound to another off of the template,
and it's totally not easy to do on the fly and usually doesn't sound exactly
like you originally had it. At least for me, but I'm no Tony Banks.

Very interested to see what others are doing with the polysix. Post
away my new friend.
