voice card calibration

voice card calibration

2017-04-28 by jw_dewdney@yahoo.com

here's another.

While running through the voice calibration routine - i was not able to get two of my voices in calibration - however it only affects patches using strong resonance (a 'whistle' type sine wave) - so there are two dead voices when using any such patch... it's been a while since I did the cal so I'm not sure at which point during the procedure I had problems - but from memory it was around half way through. (i know that doesn't really help - but maybe that info isn't really necessary anyway) - is there a troubleshooting routine you might go through to figure out what might be amiss? All other patches sound good... except those using pure resonance (or i guess you might call it 'self oscillation' - if i'm using the term correctly?)

ANYONE have a clue as to what parts of the circuit on the voice card control resonance ? Not really getting anywhere with the schematic unfortunately ... eek ... help?

The resonance control is inside the SSM2044. So in fact there is only a
trimmer in each voice for the resonance and nothing else.

thanks for the response Florian - so i'm guessing that I need to troubleshoot the components only around the 2044 chip (since replacing the chips gives no different result) ? thanks

Hi,
I may have a similar problem. When calibrating the EG Intensity and trying to get the frequencies all 5kHz, at least three of the voices are well outside this range. There is no adjustment procedure to bring individual voices into the 5kHz range, only VR4 which adjusts all the voices at once.
I've replaced the 2044 and 2056 chips which has zero effect.

Anthony.

thanks Anthony... good to know chip replacement doesn't do much either... i guess it leaves little else to check apart from trimmer function/continuity and/or power/ground? I guess  it's conceivable that the resonance circuit is being affected by something else coming into the chip...

Not sure I fully understand the issue you're having, but are your chips socketed? And have you tried changing them? Sounds unlikely I know, but I've seen a weird issue on the voice card with tuning and resonance which came down to that. Something else to try if you're out of other ideas.

sorry for the delay. i just found your response... hmmm really? yes, mine are socketed. do you think a good socket cleaning might make a difference? yes ... i tried swapping them... it was the first thing i did with those ...

OK - UPDATE ...

perhaps It had been too long since i tested those voice chips - but I thought (on your advice) to try the chip swap again.. and luckily I got it to work now by swapping in a good chip from another polysix! The last time I tried this I was in the middle of a calibration which was going 'wrong' so when i swapped chips i got the same result ... but I wasn't concerned with resonance at that time... so that's probably why ... thanks for reminding me to try it again under this circumstance
