Calibration procedure.

2016-12-16 by a_cornish_2000@yahoo.com

Hey everyone,
I'm new to this list, and have been trawling through the past conversations for some help on the calibration procedure of KM367. it's a clone board, yet to be calibrated.
I can set VR1, but then am stuck on the next step. Is there a trick to this?

The way I am doing it is
1. have controls in the normal position.
2. turn on
3. select "manual" (program leds turn off)
4. flick the "test" switch. at this point, the program leds stay off.
5. flick the "tape enable". at this point, 1-8 leds are still off.
6. flicking back to tape disable, leds 4&5 light up. further switching of the tape switch does not change 4&5. they stay on.
7. adjusting VR6 & VR7 make no change to leds 4&5 lighting up.

Jumping to the next step, adjusting VR2 does not change the amplitude of the triangle wave. it is staying for me at around 4.4v p-p.

If i've got something wrong here, let me know.

help is much appreciated!

Hey everyone.

Small update. My KLM-370 was well destroyed by the battery acid, so that has been totally reworked today, and working perfect.

So I got through the VR6&7 calibration procedure, and am again stuck at getting the sawtooth wave calibrated at 1.0v p-p.

Everything traces correctly past VR2, then after R78, the voltage adjustment makes no impact.

My assumption here is that is is being biased by a voltage out of IC14 pin 1, which is fed from MG delay, and "ST" off CN05-16. Therefore I think my problem maybe on the other end of CN05-16, ie, KLM-366.
This trace is sitting on +5.0v

Finally got this one working!
I bought an untested clone board on ebay (AUD $210), which was a risk I might admit.
Turns out that Q2, Q4 and Q5 were original components with a different pin-out.
Rather than bend pins, i inserted them on the underside of the board, to flip pins 2&3.
Now it's up and running perfectly, and I could complete the calibration!!
Given I bought the board (with acid damage) for AUD $200, this has turned out to be a bargain. It had one owner, hardly been gigged, and came in the original box!
The cosmetic appearance of it is perfect

:)

Is this what an old production KLM-366/396 looks like? I see that small board on top of the 366 which I assume is the 396. I haven’t seen one of these before. And what are all of those light blue/teal colored wires on the back of the KLM-370? Some major repair or was that also some kind of old production version?

Hi Don,

Yeah that is an old production KLM-366 / 396. I may have one bad voice chip on it, but in general it's pretty good.

On the KLM-370, the acid somehow went through the earth wire, and destroyed about 20 traces on that board. It took around 3 hours to clean that one up, but it was relatively easy given it is a single sided board with minimal components. Something I was not expecting.
The original KLM-367 board had less battery damage to it, but because a clone board came up on ebay, I just grabbed it.
Oh, and my TL5514 RAM chip is shot as well. Easy one to fix.

Make sure you use the APL-3 version of the TL5514. It has very low current draw when the synth is powered off. Other versions seem to drain the battery fairly quickly.

RAM chips arrived and now the problem is fixed!
Loaded some sounds from this groups file section.
It seems a few pots have been eaten away in the EG section. Easy enough to sort that out.
