Whats the best hardware sequenzer for unmodded Polysix?

Whats the best hardware sequenzer for unmodded Polysix?

2016-11-25 by paularvid@gmail.com

Hi

I like knobs and buttons. Nor software. Currently I am teased by the volca beats or the Arturia keystep. Nice to have rythms in additions to the patterns.

My Polysix is an original unmodded 1983 model.

Happy for any suggestions and experiences.

Paul / Oslo, Norway.

Hello Paul

You won'nt be able to control an unmodded Polysix with any sequencer.
The only sequencer that is available has ten fingers distributed to two
hands, which are connected to you body ;-)

Sorry, but you have to modify the Polysix with a MIDI-Interface. After
that you will be able to use an MIDI sequencer.
I can recommend

the interface from tubbutec.de:
https://tubbutec.de/modypoly/
(it is for both the MonoPoly and the Polysix, so don't worry about the
MonoPoly-Pic!)

the interface from chd-el:
http://www.chd-el.cz/index.php?id=399

The Kiwisix mod from kiwitechnics.com is great but quite expensive.

I own the chd and the tubbutec and I know the kiwisix quite well. I'd
recommend the tubbutec-interface.

Best regards
Florian

If your Polysix is unmodded, there is no way to sequence notes. You can just sequence the filter and trigger the arpeggiator. Is that what you are thinking of doing? I don’t think the Volca has a CV out, just sync pulse, so to sequence the filter you would need the Beatstep or Beatstep Pro.

Thanks for updating me.
I never really noticed the lacking options for sequencing control on the Polysix until now. Obvious when it's pointed out.

I have to finally go for an upgrade mod.

I've recorded some nice sequences using a simple trigger off a drum machine and the arpegiator trigger input.

To the best of my memory, the Korg Polysix accepts "S-trig" clock pulses to sync its arpeggiator (remember you can feed patterns into this, rather than a steady clock-stream, to trigger the arpeggiator as a riff, if you get my meaning).
And the VCF cutoff input accept +5V to -5V to sweep the filter.
But as others have already said, anything else you need to do manually with your fingers
