4011 and 4042 BE vs N versions?

Well - I'm about to pack this off and send in to Andrew for diagnosis - sadly I just dont' have the time to deal with this - I'd love to go in deep to learn more but it's just too expensive for me...
But I just wanted to check on one last thing... JUST IN CASE it may have been a source of problems.
Based on Mouser's recommended substitutions I've been using the 4011BE and 4042BE versions instead of the N-versions... but can't seem to find ANY comparison of these versions anywhere online... does anyone know if there are significant differences? Jed specified the N version but only BE is available from the usual sources...
