Another newbie...

Another newbie...

2001-06-06 by Tony Allgood

Just a quick note to say 'hi' and introduce myself.

Some of you will know me from other lists, but now that I have a working
Polysix, I thought I would join here too.

I bought a very sad polysix in April, but it now works wonderfully. My
thanks must go to Scott Rider for his excellent webpages. They were
really useful in rebuilding the memory board after it had been eaten
away by that battery.

I have modded mine slightly already, and I hope to do a few more. But
the first thing I did was to change all the LEDs to different colours.
OK OK, its not really totally necesary, but by heck it looks good in the
dark. :-) I used Robin Whittle's TB303/Devilfish site to give me some
ideas on LED colours.

I am going to add midi soon too, as well as a Unison detune knob. To do
the latter I would like a polysix knob (of either shade), so if anyone
has one, I'd be interested.

Hey, what's the URL of that page?

Thanks,

I'm overdue to thank the Old Crow myself. Before I bought my first P6 I
searched the web
for info and saw Scott's site. Because of him, I knew what I was getting
into and what may have to be done. Scott's site is just plain great !!!!
Well I now have 3 P6's. Why 3? Well my 2 sons both have one each and I got
a third
for a test bed of sorts, something to experiment with. However my test one
is still not repaired as it had the most battery damage out of all 3. I've
put it on the back burner for a while, to fix some other synths,
amps etc.

Tony, can you keep us up to date on your Midimod as well as the detune
circuit.
I've got a few ideas as well that i will post if they are feasible and work.
Does anyone know the VCO Control voltage scheme ?
Is it 1 volt per octave? I never got around to measuring what it was.
My idea was to use each CV to run external modular VCO's and synth modules.

Also Tony has a great site as well

Hi Tony and welcome...
Note that this is low volume list (hoping to go up)...

That's neat idea, as P6 has lots of nice blining lights.
You could add some for envelopes and for all the lfos (mg and arp have,
ensemble and pwm missing).

What midi you plan to use? Unless you have modified your own, I guess
you'll go for some comercial one. There are 3 DIY ones available,
one Old Crow's mpx61 with lotsa 4066s, Ricard Wolfs advance one
(wich got into serial production with iotech), wich is superior
with performance but uses number of dated devices and I just don't
have time layout my own PCB based on Ricards online plans. Last
one is simple pic one from BOjan Burkeljc, with just note on/off,
but still very useable and I plan to use this one.

Unison detune know sounds interesting. How do you plan to use
just one knob for detune of all voices? There's mux inside
that in unison mode switches different resistors and voltages
for each voice to set some predefined detune. This is my next
mod I've planed, to install 6 small trimpots with some shafts
in that small area of wheel board facing to you. Just simple
voltage didviders instead fixed resistors. This way I could
detune for each voice (wow, 6VCO monster :). Only problem
I'm not sure would I make it detune +/- few cents or +/-
few octaves (it needs 0.5V per octave).

You could make your P6 master CV kbd. You just need one
dual opamp to amplify 2X CV after the DAC and take gate
from unison gate.

cheers,

marjan

Sounds interesting, where can I find info on that.

And go up to the parent directory too. Robin has compiled some
fascinating stuff. Not all to my cup of tea though....

I second that. What is the URL? I have done a websearch, and keep
getting unreachable websites.

Thanks!
