Crispy sound, anyone?

Crispy sound, anyone?

2015-05-26 by landemaine@gmail.com

Hello,

I received a Polysix, and I found that the sound is very crispy (read: unpleasant). Could you take a listen and let me know what you think, please?

The volume is far from clipping...

Is this normal?...

Thank you,

Charles.

It is not normal. Appearently it is some distortion in the sum of all
six voices. I'd track the signal on the effects board.

Definitely not normal. It sounds like there is some clipping happening in some of the patches. Is it only when the chorus/phaser/ensemble is on? Does the Attenuator setting change it?

Hi guys, thanks for the tips! You're right, this happens when piling up several notes. I found out that the Attenuator pot is not working, and neither is the VCA mode (EG / Gate). There's definitely something wrong in the VCA section. I'll take it to my local electronician for repair.

The attenuator is not a potentiometer, but a multiposition switch.

Are you able to change the effect type (chorus/phase/ensemble) and to
disable it?

If not, then the ICs 34/35 might be the cause (or the control of these ICs).

Florian,

Thank you. Yes, I am able to change the effect type (chorus/phase/ensemble) and to switch it off.

Charles.
