Discussion about the Korg PolySix synthesizer

Hi all!

I added print capability to the Polysix patch
manager. You may print all patches (8 pages),
single pages, or single patches.
I have uploaded the program to the files section
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PolySix/files/

I have uploaded PDFs of the factory patches which
I made with the PDF-Writer printer driver.

I hope that printing works with all printers and
different paper sizes (A4/Letter).

I was futzing with your Patch Manager, and I tried to load the
factory .wav file downloaded from your site, and I got an error
message saying "Wrong header in tape dump!".

Whassup?

I've finished the rework needed to turn the KLM-367 into a PIC-based
board. Using a PIC16F877 and a PIC16F628, It will be able to process MIDI
input to play notes, do sysex patch dumps, record knob movements, etc.
Gone is a battery of any kind; now a serial flash EEROM is used to store
128 patches. Also worked in are two more S/H circuits off the previously
unused "15th & 16th" control voltage channels to facilitate MIDI
mod-and-pitch wheels.

And it all still fits in the form factor of the old KLM-367.

Hi!

I am sure you would like some reports on your program.

The program get cooler and cooler indeed. But I am having
problems getting it to work with the P6 dumps that I have.

I have tried to make an 8bit 11.025kHz dump of my current
sounds using "sound recorder". The P6 happily verifies them
(and loads them as well), but your program rejects the file
itself as having "wrong data header".

I am able to send a P6 patch set from you program to the P6
successfully, but I have not yet had success recording a
patch set from the P6 with your program on my ancient laptop.

I assume that upon patch dump to P6 your program generates
the wave directly from the parameters of the patch set?
(The right way to do it!)
So it would seem that it's the input interpreter of your program
that probably reacts a bit more rigid on the input than the P6
itself.

Suggestion: How about accepting more resolutions than
8bit 11.025kHz? Just an suggestion.

The print feature is absolutely great!

Hello fargap,

The .WAV files there are non-standard in terms of
the short leader tone. To prevent reading junk at
the beginning of a .WAV dump I originally skipped
one second at the beginning. As you can hear in
those files, the leader tone is less than one sec
so it did not work correctly.
I have changed this, find the new version (1.3A)
in the files section

The whole tape interface stuff is somewhat fragile.
If it does not work try with different recording/
playback levels.

I got it to work now! I discovered another input plug on the laptop with
a lot more input sensitivity,

and now I can record straight from the PolySix. And it verifies too. At
least sometimes. I think there

is still some minor adjustment that would be nice there in the stability
department. But the important

thing is that the patches can now be saved in a digital and editable
format. Kudos to the programmer!



To celebrate this I uploaded my patch set in the new P6 format to the
files/dumps area of the list.

These sounds are the ones I use. They were meant to be “industry
secrets”, but of course anybody

could make them so go ahead and enjoy.



Improvement suggestion Johannes: How about making it possible to print
ALL patches at once,

so that each page has at least four diagrams each? Just a suggestion.

Hello Frank,

Thank you for your laudatio.
And thank you for sharing your `secret� patches
with the list!
It is already possible to print all patches at
once: use the `Print� entry from the file menu
or the CTRL-P hotkey.
I discovered that the printout has the correct
size when printing to 300 dpi printers only. I
am currently working on scaling the printout
according to printer resolution.
