Yellowed buttons and knobs - Retr0bright?

Yellowed buttons and knobs - Retr0bright?

2013-06-26 by fprs87

Hey, my Polysix has pretty badly yellowed buttons and knobs (from UV exposure over time), and I'd like to restore them to the original grey/white. The keys are kinda off-white too. Has anyone had experience with Retr0bright (http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/) to turn them back to their original colour? Or any other methods?

Thanks

[sorry for the delay getting this moderated, Yahoo hadn't sent me a notice. Ben - moderator]

Well well!
I have 3 poly-61's to refurbish and mod (adding many pots and other cool goodies) and to finally resell later, and I was just last week looking at their beige buttons being discolored over time and was wondering if I could use some form of peroxide compound to do that.

Never heard of this RetrObright before, but thanks to you, now I know about it and will give it a shot in the coming days.
Will report later on how it went.

If all goes well, or if others confirm it worked ok on their P6, I will try it on my Polysix too. But those aren't too bad on mine.
Not sure how WHITE they are supposed to be though.
Always thought them as beige in the first place...

Cheers

First - dunno why you don't like yellow or beige buttons.

Second - if you're fixing up some P61s, I have a joystick that ill sell you if you need one.

Cheers,
C

I thought they were meant to be beige too at first... then I saw some better condition looking ones online. I just finished replacing the tact switches on mine and had to remove the buttons in the process - you can really notice the difference on the underside where they haven't been exposed to UV.

Here's a shot of two of the program buttons, the one on the right shows the original color,

Looking forward to seeing your results! I want to give mine a go but haven't been able to find any peroxide in my area yet.
