After 30 min polysix notes jump up 4 notes

After 30 min polysix notes jump up 4 notes

2012-06-11 by MFAitkenJr

Hi, I have a Polysix that plays in tune at start-up, but after 30 or so minutes the "C", for example, is moved up the keyboard and plays where the "E" is. It does this consistently. Is this the problem with the OPTOCOUPLER? Is it really true that the Polysix needs to warm up fully before you can hear it's true tuning? I noticed that the back middle of the synth gets hot after ~30min. Is that normal? I've read some things, but am pretty new to the workings of the Polysix. Thanks for any insight. -Frank

The heat at the back of synth is normal. Both my 2 polysix do this.
As for warming up to get in tune, one of mine does it the other is very good - 'tuned up' withing 5-10 seconds? should not take 30 minutes!! That is some kind of fault for sure. Either the trimmers or assorted tuning components need checking or something like the pitch bend wheel may be shorting out when warm? check the pitch wheel function and turn the pitch bend pot right down just to rule it out.
good luck

also have you sorted/checked for battery damage? this can cause all kinds of weird faults if not sorted out! For example could make the MG section affect the VCO pitch and then stick

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the tips. Mine has one of those new replacement PCB boards you probably have heard of, which also has a CR2032 battery installed. It also has the midi retrofit installed, sold by the czech company I can't remember the name of. First on my list will be to check out the pitch wheel as you mentioned. Thanks again!

(why couldn't they give the Polysix a proper ventilation casing? Wouldn't that have made sense? Correct me if I'm wrong.)
