Modwheel VCO VCF VCA Issue

Modwheel VCO VCF VCA Issue

2012-05-17 by djangowes

Hello all,

I've had a P6 for a year and I there is an issue about the modwheel.
What it does is:
_when Mod switch is set at VCO, then modwheel affects VCO pitch. It's OK.
_when Mod switch is set at VCF, modwheel modulates VCF AND VCO... KO.
_when Mod switch is set at VCA, modwhell modulates VCA AND VCO... KO.

So the two last position shows an issue. It is not supposed to modulate VCO each time.
On the other hand it works nice when using MG with pots on control panel.

Modwheel is linked to KLM369 then signal reaches KLM367.
Problem with modswitch? I wonder where i should start to find the culprit.
Does anybody know when the issue could come from?
Thanks for any kind of help.

rgds,

Ed.

Ok. after some searches, I'm pretty sure it comes from the KLM367. My P6 had a battery leak then has been repaired before I have it.
I'd like to know where is produced the LFO signal. (what part of the circuit). Then the idea would be to follow the signal and find the place (crossroads) where it has to choose between VCO, VCA or VCF.
Anybody knows?

thanks,

Re: [PolySix] Modwheel VCO VCF VCA Issue

2012-05-17 by klosmon

From your description, everything is working correctly.
The mod wheel on the Polysix is hardwired to the VCO -- it does not
affect anything else.
The controls on the front panel for modulation to the VCO/VCF/VCA are
part of the patch programming, and are totally independent of the
wheel. This is unlike other synths, but it's the way the Polysix was
designed.
(this info is contained in the user manual, available several places for
free download).

Sounds like your synth is working the way it was designed.

RE: [PolySix] Re: Modwheel VCO VCF VCA Issue

2012-05-17 by backshall1

The mod wheel is always connected to the VCO, and never to VCF or VCA,
unless someone had made other modifications to the KLM-367.

The LFO has two outputs labeled "A" and "J" on the circuit diagram (bottom
right corner). The "A" signal goes to CN06 pin 1 out to the mod wheel and
back in pin 2. From there it goes directly to the VCO MOD circuit on IC8.
The "J" signal is controlled by the VCO/VCF/VCA switch and sends the amount
selected by the Level control in the MG section to the correct destination.

This doesn't sound like the way you expected it to work, but that's how it
was designed. Changing the Mod Wheel should never affect the filter or amp.

Hello,

OK, I understand now. I thought the wheel could affect VCF OR VCA OR VCO (i'm sure i'm not the only one to have thought of this as it could be understand like this if we read the panel of the P6). So my P6 works as it should. Great news!
It's a shame as it could have been cool to mod the vca or vcf alone with the wheel.
Thanks to both of you backshall1 and klosmon.

rgds,

Ed.

Hi Team,

Just for the record, routing the mod wheel to either the VCO or VCF is
possible if you have one of Johannes¹s MIDI kits. This comes as an option
extra/feature!

Cheers,
Andy

You can find this along with more mods I had made to my P6 before I did
the MIDI kit in the files section of the list (Files/Mods/P6_MODS.ZIP).

Have fun!

Hello Johannes,

thanks. Interesting mod is to be able to get the two waveforms at one time. I'll try this.
For the other ones, I'm starting to think that a clean midi upgrade would be the best solution. This seems to be a great improvment (I've seen your kit and what it does : great job!).

rgds,

Ed.

Ok. I forget to ask something else. Is it possible with the P6 to select NO waveform (like on Junos), in order to get fsound from filter alone?

thanks,

Ed.
