Modulation ever ON when a change a Patch...

Modulation ever ON when a change a Patch...

2009-03-21 by cicciostoky

Hello guys, i've a battery saved polysix, now perfect working except a stupid problem:

Every time i set a Patch, i have the Modulation ON, and if i want to stop it, everytime i need to set the frequency pot to zero. Also with the pot to zero, if a change patch, modulation again ON.

Is normal wich every Patch on the Polysix have the modulation ON? or is a problem of mine...

thanks!

Hi,

Which patches are we talking about here? If you mean the factory ones, then
yes, some have it applied depending on the patch selected. If you are saving
your own patch with the MG set to 0 on all three control and when you reload
it some other values are retrieved from memory then there is clearly a
problem. Do you notice a change in speed of the LED when you load a patch?
If you have a volt meter handy then it might be worth measuring the voltage
at IC13 pin 7, IC14 pin 7 and IC19 pin 1. When you set all three MG controls
fully counter-clockwise all voltages should be -5v. Try saving a patch with
these settings. Reload the patch and then see if the voltages vary and by
how much. That should give us some clues as to which settings are varying.

Let us know how you get on!

Cheers,

Andy

I actually had this problem on the last one I sold. The solution wound up being to...cut the trace from the modulation line coming on to the cpu /programmer board.... over to where it hooks to the filter capacitor half way between there as I recall. I load tested it. The intensity of the 'baseline lfo' I'll call it... was such that a 10K resistor would halve it!! Very strange. I examined the trace but could see no way that this ghost lfo was making it's way onto that modulation line. I can't recall which pin it is but it's the one that comes FROM the front panel mod source. Best wishes. -Bob
