MIDITec Weirdness

MIDITec Weirdness

2008-12-31 by koifish3543

Just picked up a PolySix that I'm hoping to breed with my Mono/Poly
and get a litter of Khaoss pads.

The cool but strange thing is that this keyboard has a MIDITec midi
retrofit kit in it. Midi control does seem to be working, but the
weird thing is this: The MIDITec kit repurposes the buttons for Poly,
Unison, Chord and Hold as well as the arpeggiator button. These
buttons have a nice almost PolySix-color label over them that says
Poly 1, Unison 2, Omni 4, Prog Ch 8, and 16 where the arpeggiator
button is. Under the buttons formerly known as Chord and Hold I have
Inc and Dec. By using the arp button as a shift, I can use Inc and
Dec to raise and lower MIDI channels. I get how the channel numbers
are displayed using the 1,2,4,8 lights and it all seems just ducky.

The trouble is, I want the original PolySix functionality back on
those buttons. My assumption is that there should be a shift mode to
switch back to the original functionality, but for the life of me I
can't find it. As a result, I have no ability to use Chord, Hold or
(gasp) the arpeggiator. The buttons stubbornly remain in their
MIDITec state rather than their PolySix state.

Maybe I'm giving MIDITec too much credit, but I can't imagine PolySix
owners giving up those functions just to have MIDI.

Anyone ever encountered this situation before? Is there some secret
Vulcan Death Grip that needs to be applied to set things right?

I'm afraid you discovered the huge flaw in the crappy MIDITec MIDI kit
- you lose all the arp, chord, hold functions! :(
