Might be of interest?

Might be of interest?

2008-11-13 by Andrew Jury

Hi,

After a bit of consideration I have decided to post the following. Over
the last year I have been getting steadily more involved in analogue
synth repairs. I am electronics engineer by education and training,
although not currently by employment! Suffice to say I have come across
quite a few Polysix in need of repair, many with the well know and
dreaded KLM-367 battery problem. As a trial I have been running a 'by
post' service for owners unable to carry repairs to the KLM-367
themselves, with good results and some happy customers. So, if you have
the old battery problem with your Polysix and are looking someone to
undertake the work on your behalf, get in contact and let me know. In
some ways I am trying to provide continuity for the service that 'Old
Crow' used to give, but no longer offers. I will be putting up a
website shortly with further details.

Best wishes,
Andy

good for you.....and for us..

i have been very frustrated with the general ' talk -followed-by-incompetance' that i have experienced with MANY supposed repair techs who after 6-12 months in the shop ultimately show that they really dont know what they are doing when it comes to a synth. (perhaps they can handle replacing tubes in an amp).

Hi,

The way I look at it is this. If I can use my skills to give
something back to the community then this will be a good thing. Plus
there is the pride element of having contributed to the restoration
of these great old museum pieces!

I don't think I will be any threat to the real artisans of the synth
repair world. They seem to be booked solid into the distant future
with their own base of clients. My little project might just come as
a relief to a few who can't wait that long...

Cheers,
Andy

As someone who's been repairing these boards for several years, let me
say welcome.
The more people we have doing this correctly, the better.

My personal experience (somewhere between 50-60 KLM-367s successfully
repaired) is that,
even without the availability of new boards, it's possible to keep the
Polysix going for a long time.

All

Let me be the first of one of those "seem to be happy customers" to
emphatically say that Andy is a first rate, extremely knowledgable,
electronic god sent from above when it comes to the Poly 6. He just
finished and returned my 367 board with a fresh new battery and ALL
the acid-eatin circuit paths fully repaired! And it was done in a
timely and professional manner, at reasonable cost, and the work is
flawless. I just sent him 3 other boards today for his careful
refurbishment. My Poly 6 is near new again. Give this man your
crippled P6 components and he will make them scream again!! Now I
just hope he's not so overloaded that I get put in a queue!
(Kidding!)

Sincerly, Mark
