New here. Need help repairing effects on Polysix.

New here. Need help repairing effects on Polysix.

2006-03-19 by Daniel Giantomaso

Hi everyone,

I just joined this forum because I have a Polysix that is about an inch away
from working perfectly.
I love the sound of this synth and I would love to have it working
perfectly.
I was hoping someone on here might be familiar with the problems I'm having:

1. The effects work (kick in and change when I operate the MODE switch), but
the speed/intensity knob has no effect. I tested the pot and it is fine. I
know the 368 board is the effects board, but I have no idea where to find
the components that are to do with the speed control... Maybe It's simply a
cable problem?

2. The MG works, but I cannot alter the frequency. When I turn up the level
it just slightly opens the filter, or increases the volume or increases the
pitch, depending what I have it switched to modulate, but it does not sweep.
The delay works fine.

I have a feeling that these problems are related in some way, since they
both involve a modulating frequency control...

Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help.

-Daniel

did you check for battery leak damage?

Yep. I bought it used and it looks like it had the battery leak problem and someone fixed it
up very nicely...
If you know of common problems that occur after the battery leak that are related to mine,
it might help.
thanks.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I know what tuning it to itself means.
Could you explain a little further for me? Thanks...

well what you're describing could easily be from the battery damage.

maybe "tuning to itself" could mean calibrate it. you can find the
instructions to calibration procedure on oldcrow's site. it could help
doing that.

I know the site. I'll give it a try.
I'll have to find an oscilloscope somehow, I guess.
If it is from the battery damage, is it usually repairable?
I know some of the ICs in these things are hard to replace...

Re: [PolySix] Re: New here. Need help repairing effects on Polysix.

2006-03-21 by jure zitnik

i think everything can be replaced. i've replaced quite a few ICs in
mine (it still doesn't work 100% though). the traces are repairable
(you just jumper them) but the tricky part is to find the faulty ones.
there's a nice guide on this on oldcrow's site.

i'm not saying it's that for sure though - and it's more difficult to
locate the broken traces if it's already been half-repaired (you don't
see where the battery acid leaked)...

Tuning it to itself means that the notes in all the octaves are in
sync.....for example all the "C" notes are in sync, just octaves apart. I
guess some people would refer to it as calibration.
