Back To One Again

Back To One Again

2006-01-03 by motionsandwaves

I just found out that the New battery that was installed is a slightly
lower voltage, a 2032 lithium

It should be 3.2 Volts? Correct?

I messed with the Reset Adjuster to no avail. The main problem was the
sound reverting back to Bank One , Sound A every 20 minutes or so.
Would a lower voltage battery be causing the problem?

Thanks
Joe

No.
A number of people have attributed many PolySix malfuctions to a bad battery;
the ONLY thing the battery does (besides leak all over the board & cause
untold damage) is to maintain power to the RAM chip when the synth is
turned off.
The RAM will still work, if the battery is dead or missing; you can save
programs from the front panel or from the tape interface & recall them at
will -- as long as you don't turn off the synth.

It's been my experience that when people think they've corrected all the
circuit board problems caused by a battery leak, they're ususally wrong --
keep in mind this is a digitally controlled machine, and that data and
address lines are running all over the CPU & front panel boards. If ANY of
these lines are shorted, broken or otherwise screwed with by a leaking
battery, the synth will malfunction -- sometimes in surprising ways.

(let me also add that visual inspection is not enough to determine that
battery damage has been repaired; there are many traces running under ICs
that can be etched away without being visible).

Could you make any suggestions on the possible problems? And how to
fix them? Why would it , to use a term , run home to mamma every 20
minutes?

Re: [PolySix] Re: Back To One Again - Battery myths

Hard to say.

All I can suggest is get hold of the schematics & a scope & start tracing
data & address lines ...

Good luck.

Another thing that people forget is that even if a trace has continuity from/to the right places, that doesn't mean that it isn't shorted to another trace that goes to the wrong place.

You want A to B and X to Y... NOT A to BXY and X to ABY
