I also own both. Difficult question. To me a Mono/Poly definitively has a unique character worth to keep it. Although I always would prefer my old CS-40M over the MoPo just by the warmth of its sound, it has distinct possibilities some other synths and a P6 in special cannot deliver - just look at the detuning of 4 Oscs and the cross-modulation possibilities, two envelopes, two LFOs. However, the basic sound to me is not comparable at all. The MoPo steps a bit far in a "plastic" area to my ears. Might have to do with the fact, that the P6 has discrete Oscillators as the MoPo uses SSM-ICs for that job, if I remember that right. I also find the MoPo a bit "colder", perhaps more agressive, maybe a bit more of that Arpish-style. But this could have to do with the P6's nice effect-section. Perhaps one should keep in mind that MoPo and P6 were designed to do completely different jobs. And in the Monosynth-business the MoPo has a distinct punch and competes well at least with some Rolands. My solution: I put the MoPo aside a few weeks ago but am still sometimes playing the P6. However, I would never sell that instrument - although ebay-prices ranged between 460 and 650 Euros the last 1 1/2 years. Regards Stefan >I just purchased a polysix.
