On thing you can test easily to see if the envelope chips are working:
Even in Gate mode the envelope controls the filter (if appropriately set).
So dial up a patch with filter envelope modulation and low Cutoff and
you'll see if an envelope is generated.
Do you have an oscilloscope? This would make things much easier.
