help with my matrix, from argentina!

Hi, im luis from argentina

i have a matrix 6 with 1.05 software version, and im having some sysex problems i think

i have bought a midi controller custom for the matrix, that a guy designs here

but when i connect the midi controller and move a knob the matrix freeze, and the sound too!

can you help me please?

The latest software version for the Matrix-6 and -6R rackmount is Ver. 2.13.  A software update would probably fix your problem - if the controller's software was designed to operate Ver. 2.13.

Luis, did I already send you a list of possible sources for V. 2.13 OS for your Matrix?  Computer went mad a minute ago, so I'm not sure if the message got through.

I'm checking with my friend, Bob Weigel, who operates Sounddoctorin' synth repair service.  Not sure if he has it either, but it's vale la pena.  ;-))

Please check Google - although I have had little luck finding one on there.  Thanks!

Actually, you want 2.13A for the keyboard. The A version has a larger dead band for the pitch lever, so it comes back to centre better. I can provide the file, or I can provide the ROM for $50 plus shipping...

Thank you, John! (Didn't know about the "A" designation ROM). Luis, I hope that John will help you.

I don't remember if my Matrix-6 has the "A" ROM in it, but I usually do the following after powering on and letting the M-6 warm up for about 10 minutes or so:

Run the CALIBRATION routine (MASTER setting, function 52). To get the best sound out of the Matrix, the CALIBRATION routine is necessary, as it not only tunes the DCOs, but also aligns the waves, pulse widths, VCf cutoff freqs., and sets the PITCH and MOD. levers to a zero point. BUT! Before running the CALIBRATON, work the PITCH and MOD. levers fully up and down a few times, letting them settle at the mid-point. That is where CALIBRATION will set the zero point for the levers.

NOW run CALIBRATION. It will ask "READY?" Press the "YES" key. You may hear some very quiet sounds as the adjustments are made. This will take about 15 seconds. When finished, the display will return to CALIBRATION. I usually press the TUNE button to insure that it's fully-tuned.

Often, this will 'cure' not-good sounds eminating from the Matrix-6/-6R.

Actually, you want 2.13A for the keyboard. The A version has a larger dead band for the pitch lever, so it comes back to centre better. I can provide the file, or I can provide the ROM for $50 plus shipping...

Thanks a lot for the image.

However, looking at the hexcode I find this string:

"VERS 2.13"

No "A" in it.

Without being able to locate a regular 2.13 firmware, I can't compare the entire image to check if it's 2.13 or 2.13A.

I have 2.13 in my own Matrix-6, but I was hoping that I don't have to open it up and extract the ROM and read it only to find they're identical.

I assume you have a Matrix-6 with this firmware John. Could you just start yours and see if it says "2.13A"?

If not, how would anybody know which version they are using if it shows the same when you look at the software version in the synth?

Maybe there's no such thing as 2.13A :)

I have a Matrix-6 with 2.13 but I'd like to try the 2.13A if you could send the bin file to me please.

I'm assuming it would say "2.13A" in the display when checking software version, but mine says "2.13"...

Actually, you want 2.13A for the keyboard. The A version has a larger dead band for the pitch lever, so it comes back to centre better. I can provide the file, or I can provide the ROM for $50 plus shipping...

but when i connect the midi controller and move a knob the matrix freeze, and the sound too!
