But I am hesistant to recommend that general "Cap swapping thing" to
everyone. Be aware that less experienced readers may be prompted to 
eventually do bad to their beloved instruments just for the sake of a hoax.

BTW, did you experience any improvement over the original state. And if yes, 
where or under which circumstance?
