OBERHEIM SYNTH

Hey everybody, I am new here.

I just got an Oberheim Matrix 1000 to add some analog flair to my otherwise Yamaha-FM flavored arsenal. 

I have Midiquest, and have been trying to use it with this synth, but I am having trouble communicating correctly with it. I have turned Midi Echo off, but still when I try to load the patches/banks to my computer, it acts as if it is working, but when it is done, all of the patches that came to the computer are a "default" patch, without names. 
Selecting them does not change the patch number on the front of the unit.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is there some special trick to make this work? Please, any advice might help.
