"Warday" is a good read. More political and apocalyptical than sci-fi. 2 writers go cross-country in the aftermath of the event, gathering info and stories from the survivors. California becomes its own country (almost). Kind of like now, but more so.
Seek out a used copy.

is ripe for a remake. 


But something that I hope is much better than the Tom Cruise War of the Worlds.

I enjoyed "The Road" (book and film).
 
Didn't see it, but I believe the film"On the Beach" is in the same vein.

As a lifelong racing enthusiast, "Days of Thunder" is so full of fictional rubbish it's not worth my time, in my personal opinion.
But's it's just a movie, not a documemtary.

Grand Prix, hands down. Saw it in the theatre.
I'm not into endurance racing, but I have attended the 24 hours of Daytona several times.
F1 mandated to a 2 hr time limit.
I prefer break it and park it, over pacing, race tape and the like.
I'm a formerjournalist for the Ferrari Owner's Clubs magazine, web site, a 2 other's sites overseas.
