MK VI - 10 year maintenance tune-up

MK VI - 10 year maintenance tune-up

2009-11-27 by ClayE

The cabinet seems to be twisting a bit. The 1st three white keys sometimes stick. (Rubbing on the cabinet front board). The flywheel is only clearing the cabinet by hair. I unscrewed the six screws securing the main frame, gave it a twist and tightened them up. I now have good clearance in both spots.

I put it back together, spill box cover on, keyboard on...check, check. Couldn't get a sound ont of it. What the fuck?

Forgot to put the tape frame in. That might be the problem.

Don't forget to replace the timing belt and spark plugs and flush out the cooling system. I find in Canada you really can't get by with all-seasons in winter. Spring for a good set of snow tires. Your mellotron will handle much better on snow and ice.

Hmmm. Unscheduled Mellotron Movement (or as it's commonly known, UMM). It's
a good thing its kept in that white box or it may well have gotten away by
 now.

Has your Mellotron had its daily movement today? A large Depends or even
a Protector Muff may help.

I stack my arp 2600 on top of my tron, so changing tapes is a pain. I can't tell you how many times I forget to put the spill box cover back on, at least 50% of the time.

Well, at least you have a spill box cover, right?

Yet another project for me to make...
