Aha! I LOVE this record. Our drummer did me a copy a year ago or thereabouts, blank cd, no words or warnings. I listened to it for the first time on a train journey through open-backed Sennheiser headphones with lots of spillage and everybody in my vicinity looked VERY strangely at me during the 'orgy' sequence.. Brilliant record and hearing it for the first time was very trippy indeed.

I happen to have a massive crush on Delia Derbyshire in her prime. What a mind she had, what a sonic sensibility.

Nice hands too.

PS I've just got me an analog Roland GR300/G202 guitar synth rig. It's GORGEOUS! I now sound like Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy at the same time. Resonance and Cutoff knobs on the guitar too. Perfect!

The Doctor Who theme still puts tingles down my spine like it did the first  
time I heard it in November '63.  What a tune.  Ron Grainer was a  great TV 
theme composer and deserves credit.  He also wrote the fabulous  Prisoner theme.

I have a recording of the theme from The Prisoner (which is called 'The 
Age of Elegance') played by Grainger himself on a Baldwin electric 
harpsichord. Very spooky stuff.

The Dr Who theme has (I think) suffered a lot over the years. The 
original wobbled microtonally which gave it a fantastic 'swimming' 
effect (not unlike that in the second half of 'Strawberry Fields') and 
comprised timbres you were never entirely certain about. The tune is 
masterful, but Delia's craft is what makes it so memorable. Of course 
the BBC went and savaged it in the 1980s with truly /horrific /synthed 
up versions (not to mention a series of shit stories, shit actors, shit 
plots, shit sets and shit monsters) but redeemed themselves with the new 
theme (circa Eccleston) which now seems to have been compressed and EQed 
flat for some reason. Come to think of it, it's a bit like the way the 
show has progressed recently. But no doubt they have their reasons. A 
shit reason, no doubt.

Thanks for the link to the White Noise review, Clay.  I gree with 
reviewer 110%.

My 1st LP copy was American strangely and featured all these ears 
arranged in neat rows across the front of the LP.

The UK version with the lightening bolt is way cool though....

Incredible stereo effects for 1969.

I swore the cello effect was tron for years until I read something on 
David Vorhaus' web-site, explaining that it was all electronic.

Delia and Brian did the theme music for an early 1970's Brit horror 
flick ('Haunted House'? 'The House on the Hill'?) and they did 
BAFFLING choir sounds with their electronics.

It remains one of my favourite albums.
