Genesis and Fripp's Tron

2008-06-15 by Mark Pring

Forgive me if this is well known, but I was browsing through a very large book on Genesis in a Wellington book shop at the week end and I came across a paragraph dealing with the group's mellotron.

Apparently they bought a Mark II from Robert Fripp which he insisted was the very one used to record "In the court of..". However Tony Banks remarks that at that stage Fripp owned 3 trons and he reckoned that Fripp said that about all of them.

I think everyone pretty much knows that Martin Smith knows the answer to
this one.

best of luck on that.
sorry i can't offer to bring one of mine - an m400 doesn't fit in my car.
if you get in a jam, please feel free to reach out though - there may be
a chance to make arrangements - but the sooner i know the better - i do
have 2 m400s at my house still and might be able to arrange a van, but
like i said- the sooner i know the better since i would be relying on
another party for the van...

keep me posted, and maybe i will see you on sunday [?!]

Thanks Jeff. I have plenty of Mellotrons. There are 5 of them in my
basement. The one that is apart will be back together in the next day or two. I'll
have three there and only two will be needed.

After that short stint I was inspired to start the acid polka jazz band? "Wurst Case Scenario".? We put out one album, "Band of Bratters", which did quite well.

The albums I've worked on usually stay in the closet.......

Oh yeah, My friend Chris Bowman and his pals are devotees of Ornette. He came to a bunch of the sessions and played the role of mentor. Nice man....nutty, but nice. On one subsequent album I played bass on one song. I had no idea what the hell I was playing, as I felt like I was doing the bass player equivalent of shooing a nasty bee from my face, but the rest of the band thought my contribution was "perfect".

It had a note from Ornette Coleman on the back. Shock Exchange.
