Just been listening to the end of Moonchild which has always reminded me of something and I suddenly realised that it's just like the goodbye song in Andy Pandy. Fripp is roughly the same age as me and was probably brought up with "Watch with Mother" I wonder if it is a concious or unconcious reference. Anyway probably more than half the group don't know what I am going on about. Mark

Close to 50 years now. Thanks also to Mark for the original post. Can't say I immediately caught the Moonchild reference, but was not listening under the best of conditions, so will have to try again later. BTW, if anyone out there ever hears of John Zorn's project called Moonchild, AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE! It's f**king awful. They were at the recent Victoriaville festival (http://www.fimav.qc.ca/en/edition/horaire/). Joey Barron is a good drummer, and Trevor Dunn was ok on bass, but I could certainly do without Mike Patton screaming up a lung half the time. If there were any actual words involved they were totally unintelligible. Zorn didn't even play, just ran the mixing desk (oh, apart from the "encore" when he came out and flailed his arms about in a half-assed attempt at conducting. The only thing worse was his other project, the night before called "The Dreamers". Boring and mostly tedious lounge music. At least Zorn was on stage for that one, though all he did was more "conducting" - which hardly seemed necessary - from a chair, and only played on one piece, for about three minutes, max. Total waste of time if you ask me (you didn't? Oh, sorry. Back to 'trons, then). Jim Bailey

I think it was most likely the texture that Mark was referring to. It's not the same song by any means, but when we're kids we latch on quite powerfully to certain resonances. My obsession with the Mellotron began in very much the same way. -Jack --- James Bailey <jimab@rogers.com> wrote:

I never had this as a child, but it was fun to watch. The world was a much better place when Andy was around. We had Howdy Doody, a somewhat different approach to children's programing. I was born in 1952 and I can't remember not watching Howdy as a kid. I don't think any musical inspiration came out of that show, but I do believe that Princess Sumerfall Winterspring was my first female fantasy. **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers.
