It's old home week for me. All of us record importers from the 709;s make contact during the festival. We feel like we actually did something in our youths.

I will be around if you need help. I know you shouldn't be humping gear.

Record Cover

The link below shows the album cover of the new Melody Gardot album which will be released tomorrow. To me, the photography and design of the cover bears a similarity to a Roxy Music album cover.

Gino,

I am actually in pretty fine shape these days. I belong to a gym, I weigh
178 pounds (down from 239), I eat right and I am working on recovering my
upper body strength. I no longer take, nor require blood pressure or
cholesterol medication, my blood sugar, triglyceride levels, etc. are all great.
Except for a bit of arthritis, I feel fantastic. I think by June 21st, when I
leave for Bethlehem, I will be strong enough to schlep a M400 out from my
basement and carry it up to my truck by myself... not that I intend to do
so.

However, I am grateful for your offer of help and not to prideful or stupid
to accept and I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks.

Re: [newmellotrongroup] Nearfest Apocalypse

I think this is going to be a really good one, This has become many peoples only vacation plans for the year, with last year falling through and the declaration of the end of the series as we know it and with the prestigious reputation amoung musicains and cogniscenti. It will be a blast.

What us really funny is that really famous mainstream people, actors, performers show up as fans and nobody aknowledges or recognizes them (or even gives a shit IMHO). If Sherman Hemsley showed up that would be different.

Daevid Allen tells a great story about hanging one afternoon with
Sherman Hemsley in LA -- think of it as a very high encounter in the
Twilight Zone, complete with armed-to-the-teeth drug dealers and bodyguards.

Thanks Robert. I wish you could be there too. I will be taking three
incredible Mellotrons with me. One is the unit that I am currently restoring and
the other is the "Lazarus" machine that I completed in 2007 and improved in
2010. Thank you Mike Reina. They are both white. The third one is black
and is owned by Joe Colasante, and it is also a product of my shop.

There is one conspicuous Mellotron that will NOT be there. I can't tell you
which one because if I do, I'll never hear the end of it (Mel). It doesn't
know that it will not be attending.

I recall be amused when the Strawbs played in 2004 and Dave Cousins (much

Daevid Allen tells a great story about hanging one afternoon with
Sherman Hemsley in LA -- think of it as a very high encounter in the
Twilight Zone, complete with armed-to-the-teeth drug dealers and bodyguards.

Ah well...truth is clearly not as funny nor as entertaining a tale as

Nearfest

2012-06-26 by gino wong

Nice Mellotron work at NearFest Apocalypse by Frank Stickle. The instruments looked and sounded beautiful.

I did notice that two M400s sounded much better than the M-Faux-K. I actually could tell the difference and I was surprised because ROMplers tend to be stage efficient. Not the case at all this time.

It truly is a fact: there is no real substitute for a real Mellotron - Novatron

Sorry we couldn't meet up Frank everybody was talking to everybody else, socializing etc...

They are going to need Mellotrons at Farfest, my next festival. The lineup is out of teenage dreams.

I know that I will definitely be using my M400 at Farfest....so that's one. Hope to see you there Gino!

I passed your name to Greg Walker, Frank....although I can't imagine he doesn't already know of you. It would make sense that Wobbler and some of the other bands would need an M400 but I don't know what the plan is.....

In 2005 I brought two trons to NEARfest for Wobbler, and forged an enduring friendship with Lars. I had hoped to do it again someday. I am assuming that Greg Does not offer trons in his catalog of available instruments, as did NEARfest.

I made an observation that was a bit surprising to me. It has to be seen withing it's context.

Your lack of a Mellotron on stage is not going to keep me from coming to see you if I like your music. No way that anybody would eschew a band over that,

I have an Epi guitar that too fragile to gig with but I bring it to every recording session that I run because it prints so well. Who the hell knows and who the hell cares.

We all do whatever we can given time and resources, that's all.

That is all.
