Camel

2011-09-23 by mellotronmadness

Continuing my trawl through the early 70's, I came across this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbqaKyVEFjU&feature=mh_lolz&list=PL46B5719EEB971E84

Seems to be an overdubbed live performance, the video shows an organ but there seems to be loads of tron and a great mark II flute solo, he must have had a very well set up tron.

I had a chance to work with Camel back in 2003. Tom Brislin was the keys
man for them on that tour. ( he was fabulous). At NEARfest, Tom asked if he
could have a couple of Yrons in his rig for the show and I obliged. As we
were setting them up, Andy Latimer came over and said, "Mellotrons! Ahh, the
interesting old days."

I didn't think Camel ever used a Tron. None of my albums or CDs have Tron on them.

When I saw them in the 70s they had a big old Elka Rhapsody.I thought it was an organ at first. The thiing was massive.

I agree. I think they had someone who could really play it exceptionally well, just like Dek Mess from Caravan and the Freeman String Symphonizer..

I am shocked at the solina prices especially since you can get the Tri Chorus and Phase A from Juergen Haible now.

It was reliable, and with enough effects, it was useable.
No comparison to a Solina/String ensemble.
