Re: Frank Samagaio's gear. Items for sale.

As I write this, I am sitting in my hotel room here in San Diego,
California. I flew out here for two purposes. As I'm sure all of you are aware,
Frank Samagaio passed away some months back. When he died, his sister acquired
his music gear and the rest of his personal possessions. I am now the new
owner of Frank's Mark II and I am trying to help his sister liquidate his
other music gear. Needless to say, the Mark II was his most valued
possession and I feel fortunate to have acquired it. I say this recognizing that my
opportunity to acquire it came at the loss of someone I considered a
friend and for whom this Mellotron meant a great deal.

I have a list of Frank's other gear. He had a small studio that he ran from
the first floor of his home. There is a lot of stuff. His family has
decided to keep his rather valuable guitar collection, but there are monitors,
some other keyboards, keyboard controllers, microphones, power amps, a
couple of Akai samplers, attenuators, etc.

Does anyone in this group live in the San Diego area? If so, please contact
me off list if you can help us with moving some of this equipment. Listed
below is most of what he had. All of his tapes and recordings are being
kept by his family.

Some of this may need clarification. If anyone is interested in any of
this, please contact me off list with an offer. Any fair offer will be
considered. Everything looks to be in very good condition and Frank's sister would
take anything back if it were for some reason deemed faulty.

Steven,

Thank you for that. All of frank's gear is in his sister's garage and is
well protected from weather. She doesn't know how to do eBay or Pay Pal so
before I go through the process with her of setting up those accounts, we
agreed that his stuff should be offered to any interested parties here and
then perhaps post it on Facebook. Helen is not in great physical health right
now although she is not by any means old. She suffers from a herniated disk
and is in terrible pain. The biggest difficulty beyond finding buyers is
getting Frank's stuff boxed and shipped. So Any help from any source will be
appreciated.

Frank

It was pretty freaky. It was dark for as far as you could see. I made it

the airport was crazy. It was empty.

I'm glad to see that his Mk II has gone to a place where it will be
valued.

I'm not in SD but have a brother there. I would be willing to drive

A MKII ex-Mike Pinder coffin? I think you did the right thing. Shahrazad/Bertha should sing again, especially after having the low hum noise resolved after 40 years when she was refurbished.

RE: [newmellotrongroup] Re: Frank Samagaio's gear. Items for sale.

2011-09-10 by Gary Brumm

Frank,

It might be easier to just list that stuff in the local area Craig’s List so there are no shipping/packing hassles.

A lot of that stuff is low to mid dollar gear that should move to local musicians reasonable easily and some

package deals may be able to be made. I wish I could help out personally but I have zero budget for music

right now. Best of luck moving the gear.

Gary

Hey Frank-
It is amazing how far the MK2's travel in their (extended) lifetimes. Sharayah has found another good home. My best to Frank Samagaio's family, I am sure they have had a tough time in the last few months.
You have taken on quite a task to find good homes for his equipment. If I wasn't so broke at the moment, I would be interested in the M-Audio keyboard.

   Take care

I too am glad you have the MK2. I’m very anxious to see some detailed photos and hear it in action.

Take care

I understand….maybe there is someone local who can help or are you going back out there? Packing and shipping can be a

daunting task as I am sure you well know. I wish I lived closer so I could help but I am in central California. I do a lot of eBay

and have a shipping department at an engineering firm that is owned by a very good friend of mine. We have been buying, restoring,

and reselling surplus electronic equipment for years together so we ship everything from 1 pound to 10,000 pounds all over the

world and it can be a PITA. There is also a music store here in town that buys used gear and resells it. It’s a chain called Music-Go-Round

where you could probably move it all at one time. You wouldn’t get top dollar but it would be done in one transaction if you drove it up here

(I think this is their closest location to San Diego). If there is anything I can do please let me know. If you are ever in this area you are welcome

to stay at our house to help keep your expenses down.

Cheers,

Gary

I'm a bit sad to hear Frank 1 didn't play it much. My chances at looking at/playing a MkII went way down when he died. He'd told my fiance and I that we could come by and visit him anytime, share some beers, bs, play the Pindertron. Of course, I'd rather have him alive for the sake of him being alive, Mellotrons be damned.

We were planning on visiting him in this coming year. That's two people in San Diego who died while I was planning to visit them.

Frank told me that he rarely cycled that Mellotron.

We will all miss him. Used to love giving him a hard time. I am sure he also loved returning the favor. Rest in peace, Frank.

Ken L had a restoration section in his website around March 2004, but I can't seem to find it now. There were audio files comparing Jerry Korb's Julia with the Pindertron.

Ken L had a restoration section in his website around March 2004, but I
can't seem to find it now. There were audio files comparing Jerry Korb's Julia
 with the Pindertron.

Yup, that's what I was looking for.

Thanks for posting this Clay

Fascinating to compare the sounds of the Mark II, M400 and M300. I prefer the sounds of the M300 and the Mark II would be very interesting to have a direct comparison with a Mark VI, M4000 and M4000D as well.

I think myself very fortunate to own an M400 but I would dearly love to own an M300, although I would probably follow Woolly's example and never cycle the tapes!
