My beloved Mellotron M400 for sale (sob!)

My beloved Mellotron M400 for sale (sob!)

2011-07-06 by pimroy@rocketmail.com

Hi everyone.

I am selling my beloved Mellotron M400 (Black, 1973, ex Edgar Froese Serial No. 1134) and thought I'd post here to see if anyone out there would be interested. I am in Sussex, England.

I've had the tron since 2003 and it's a superb sounding machine. It has two tape frames with Mk2 Violins, Mk2 Brass, 8 Voice Choir and Mk2 Flute, Cello and Woodwind. The tapes were replaced when I had the tron serviced in 2004. I also replaced the motor with an SMS2 model.

Edgar Froese's name can be seen on one of the tape frames and the chaps at Streetly verified that the machine had been sent to Edgar Froese in 1973.

Well, that's it. Please feel free to contact me for photos of the machine if you're interested in buying it.

Thanks, Lee.

John doesn't like Edgar Froese? No.
I'm sure he meant that it's sad to hear that you will be selling your beloved Mellotron. We feel your pain.

As a devout T-Dream fan, I immediately contacted him.
Must not want to sell it that badly, as I showed great interest in it, several times, to receive no relies.

Wow, another Pomeroy. Brilliant!! Thanks Vance and thanks everybody else. As Martin at Streetly rightly said, I am selling it out of want rather than need.

But if this were a support group, I'd recommend it to anyone :) You chaps are great.

Lee.

Hi Lee,
The Internet has been quite odd lately, so no problem over the delay.
I'd quite like to see the pictures!
Martin is a good friend to me too, whom I have never met in person, and I'll bet he can come up with what constituted the original tape racks. Keep trying to come up with a trip over again, with the sole destination being England. I have business with Robin at EMS too.
Not cancelling my M4000s order, still trying to wrap my head around 48 sounds to mix and match!
Hope to see those pics soon!
Thanks in advance!

RE: [newmellotrongroup] Re: My beloved Mellotron M400 for sale (sob!)

2011-07-07 by Lee Pomeroy

Hi Tony, please find attached a zipfile of pictures of my Mellotron.

I think Edgar painted this one black but it originally shipped in white as it's white on the inside. But the few bits of footage I have seen on Youtube of T Dream all have black painted Mellotrons.

Martin could probably shed some more light on that though!!

Enjoy the pictures Tony

I wish you were closer to Calif. I haven't worked on a 2600 for many years but would certainly help you our if I could.
They aren't that complicated but some parts may be difficult to obtain now. Good Luck!

I've owned and fixed 2600s since 1974.
Brilliant synths, nothing compares, in my opinion.
ARP certified tech, looking for a 3rd, and know where one is.
No lose situation!

I'm just gonna bite the bullet and ship it down to Phil Cirroco/CMS down in Savannah GA. He did the initial restore on mine. It's worked perfect until today. I spoke with him and he thinks it's a bad VCA or EG. Phil either has the parts or builds them! He is a monster tech.

thanks for the reponse though.

Bought the thing mint, high C was broken in shipment, gee who would have guessed?
Anything around the contact bar, I don't power up!
It has a road case for the repair trip!

Off list atm655@verizon.net if you please.

Phil is the shit. His workload is worse than an EMS deliver schedule though, Is it better since he moved.

Re: [newmellotrongroup] How To Wreck a Nice Beach

2011-07-09 by Chris Dale

I have this book.
Overall it's a very good book, well researched and a good resource for those curious about the history of the vocoder.
But what';s not good about it is the occasional 'hipster lingo' the author uses when showing his bias towards some less than talented late 70's and 80's contributors to vocoder use.
He occasionally passes these people off as bigger than they are (or were) and exaggerates their influence as though it was consensual fact and not his own opinion.
The exaggerations of contributions by 80's era 'nobodies' hampers the books' credibility.
If you can see through this 'revisionism' this then the book is a great resource.
