OT- revisiting old records

2011-03-31 by johnm400s911

I picked up a copy of Roxy Music's "For Your Pleasure" in the dollar bin. I forgot what a fun record it is. Check out the dry Tron strings
on the "Bogus Man". Bryan Ferry's voice is at times difficult to listen to, however.

Mackay's sax/oboe - at times difficult to listen to as well.

Lots of Eno on the title track. The retro-video works well with this song.

Ferry's voice is amazing! Those songs would be rubbish if someone sang them in an 'ordinary' voice.
"Before I die, I write this let-ter..."
"Valerie, pur-lease, believe me, it never would have worked out..."
"I blew up your body... but you blew my mind"
etc etc etc

I read recently that Ferry has a voice 'like a gigolo with a knife held against his throat'.

It seems to me the reviewer would need to have some sort of experience as a customer before making that comment. It's a scary thought.
