Agreed Tom and IMO The Day the Earth Stood Still is probably
the best example I know of.

There is some really good science fiction music using theremin. The soundtrack to Day the Earth Stood Still by Bernard Hermann is one of the best. He also uses an early Yamaha organ, and a new innovation- the Fender electric bass.
Now that would be hard!
