I recommend The Ascent of Man by Jacob Bronowsk. Its Cosmos that instead of the 
universe, looks are the evolution of man in terms of art and science. I had a 
college class based on the series in 1973 which dovetailed with prog rock and my 
search for meaning in life.

The "Cosmos" series is worth owning.
Liked it as it ran, bought it for "on my demand" viewing.
Pity Dr. Sagan died so young.
