ISP Problems

It has been brought to our attention that sometimes (due to noise,
hardware "personalities" etc) that it may take several
synchronization attempts to autobaud when using the ISP utility. We
are looking to adding this feature to the utility now. (eg.
many "?"s sent before giving up)

Thanks for the feedback

It would be nice, if we would be able to run ISP utility from command
line (noninteractive)

Have a look at http://www.clibb.de and go to lpc21isp.
There you see how you can call the original philips utility by command line
(at least older version worked).
Also you can use my utility, which is complete command line driven.

Actually purchasing LPC2106's

2004-03-30 by James Dabbs

I've seen this topic mentioned before, a while back, but it seems to be
a real-time problem. Now, our own purchasing is having a devil of a
time getting LPC2106's. We're in the US. Does anyone know distributers
who have prototype quantities in inventory? Like, 10 units or so?

Thanks.

Contact your Philips sales rep. They can often help get you small
quantities for prototypes. You should not have to go through
distribution for that.

Philips. Look up their number on the web page.

Goto www.Arrow.com, I have been buying parts from them since long
time. This time I bought 2106 from them and got samples from Phillps
too.

ISP Problems

2006-04-20 by jstamos111@yahoo.com

Hey All,

I\'m having trouble getting the ISP to work with the Philips Flash Utility for a board I made that uses the LPC2106 processor. I\'ve also tried using hyperterminal and sending \'?\', but get no response.

I\'ve connected the UART0 send and recv to an inverter and then to a max233. Anyone know if this is right? Originally I did not have the inverter, but I noticed that the max233 inverts its outputs.

I\'m also wondering if perhaps I\'m not holding the proper buttons down. I have two buttons that when pressed pull their respective pins low on the LPC processor. The buttons are on the ~RST and P0.14 pins. When I go to use the flash utility or a terminal I know I hit the reset button, do I also need to hit the P0.14 button. Do I hold these down when I go to read the device ID or when I start sending the question marks?

I am pretty sure I\'ve got the settings right on the Philips utility. My processor\'s clock is 10Mhz and I set that. I set the baud rate to 9600 as well. When I use HyperTerminal I set the bits per second to 9600, the databits to 8, parity to none, stop bits to 1, and flow control to none.

Any idea why I might be having this problem? Anything else you need to know?

Thanks.
- John

Hi John,

  First, no inverter is needed.

Next, Hold both buttons down, then release the reset while still
holding the P0.14 line.

regards,
Charles

P0.14 must be held low when RESET is pulled low then high for the bootloader
to come alive and recognize your '?'.

You don't need the inverter, just connect the MAX233 to the LPC2106.

I just used a jumper for P0.14 on my board connecting it to ground, and a
pullup resistor.

Sounds similar to a problem I had. Philips assigned RTS and DTR to the
wrong pins in figure 2 of ap note 10302. If you RTS and DTR to their
correct pins then they are reversed in your design. You can put a breakout
box between your PC and your target and use it to swap RTS and DTR if that
is the problem.

If P0.14 is low after Reset is released (reset goes high) you should be in
the boot loader.

Why do you have the inverters in Rx/Tx? Straight out of the max233 works
fine and is required for the reset and P0.14 signals to be properly
controlled by the Flash Utility.
