LPC2138 IAR UART code not always working

Hello All, Ok, I have an issue with the UART on the LPC2138(IAR starter kit) with the sample code when I call the GetChar(UART1) function it seems to work sometime, other it goes into a dead loop on the while(!...) and other times it will hit the vectors on address 0x0 anyone knows what's going on??
